Where are You Now?

Now available in Sault Michigan at Book World, 404 Ashmun

Our next issue has been delayed due to problems with ad sales.  We are still looking for an advertising sales representative.... see below  Sorry for any inconvenience.  Subscribers will eventually receive the number of issues they subscribed to.

Let us take this opportunity to introduce you to Townies, your community-based magazine that is dedicated to you and the residents of your community, past and present; your stories; and the places and things that make life in your community fascinating.

Masterful photography, clean design and personable writing offer you an inspirational look at where you come from and where you are heading.

What is a Townie? - It seems that some folks are mispronouncing our name.  It is TOWN-IES, not TWO-NIES.  Our defiinition of a Townie is a person who grew up in a small tightly knit community; the opposite of a "city slicker"

We are "Proud to be Townies!" and hope that you are "Proud to be a Townie!" too.

Try out our new Reader Forums.  Leave a comment, tell everyone where you are, or post a story!

News!

Current Issue - Volume 4 Number 1 - September 2009

The 17th issue of Townies magazine was in the mail and at newstands during the first week of October.  This is the first issue in Volume 4 and features Memories of a Vanished Era, stories about theatres in the Sault.

Once again we apologize for the delay between issues and thank you for your patience. Our delays continue to relate to difficult and slow advertising sales, a problem that has recently plagued most media. We are forced to publish the magazine more sporadically as a result.

If you are a subscriber, please rest assured that you will receive all issues in your subscription, delays just extend your subscription over a longer period of time. We hope to have our next issue out before year end.

In This Issue

Our feature in this issue is on the vanished theatres in Sault Ste. Marie. We hope you enjoy it. We also have stories relating to the Finnish Male Chorus Kaleva, The Vallee Boys, Vernes Hardware, and more. If you have a request for something you’d like to see featured in our magazine, we’d love to hear from you. You may note that we have a couple of new columns in our magazine, “Portraits of Valor” and “Global Adventures”. We hope that these are enjoyed by you as much as other favourites.

We are Looking for Your Stories

If you have an inclination to write a column, or have an idea for one you’d like to see in your magazine, please drop us a note. Everyone has a story to tell, we all want to hear yours. You don’t need to be a professional writer; all you need is an idea. If interested, please contact our editor, Carol Zarudenec Smith. Stories are always best told by the person with the story so we ask that you submit your story in writing it you can. If not, contact us to see if we can arrange to have someone write your story. There are many young people in local schools that might be able to “do a project” in helping you get your story out. If you are a person with a story, or an aspiring writer, we want to hear from you!

Thanks to our Local Businesses

We ask that you patronize the businesses you see advertised in your magazine. Let them know you saw their ad and thank them for their support. We would not be able to produce this magazine without the cooperation of these businesses. There are many local businesses that deserve our praise in helping to get this magazine to you. Cliffe Printing helps us to provide a top quality product and helps us to distribute it to you. Kwik Kopy prints the newsletter subscribers receive, the envelopes subscribers receive the magazine in are purchased at Stones Office Supply. Eazy Express, Vianet, Christies Campers, Savoy’s Jewellers, The Station Mall, Dumanski Office Interiors, Laird International Raceway, Bordertown UBrew, YIPS, Sault Transit, Maitland Motors, and many many more have provided lots of support through the past. Thanks to all!

If you own or operate a local business, consider placing an ad in our magazine. Our readership is estimated to be 20,000 people. Our magazine has longevity that other media does not have; we are on the newsstand for at least two months, and the magazine typically does not get thrown away like other paper publications, instead it either gets kept, or redistributed. Ads in Townies are more likely to be seen than in any other local media. Give us a call to get more information about advertising.

Still Wanted! Advertising Representatives

As outlined in our past newsletters, we are still looking for advertising sales representatives. Our sales team members are paid on a commission basis. If you enjoy working your own schedule and like to get out and about meeting people in the community you might want to consider this position. It can be an ideal opportunity if you are retired, or if you have some time and want some additional income. If interested please call or drop us a note by using our contact form.

Subscriptions

Your subscription also helps us to produce the magazine. Without readers like you, we wouldn’t exist. Signing up for a subscription, or renewing, helps us to plan, improve, and grow your magazine. About one third of our subscribers live outside of Sault Ste. Marie. This group is the largest growing segment of our mailing and readership. There are many readers out there that are now living lives outside of the Algoma District. Many of those people find the magazine a method to reminisce, reflect, visit or revisit our local people, places and events.

If you have a friend, relative, or acquaintance out there that you think might enjoy your magazine, consider purchasing a gift subscription for them. A gift subscription form is included on the insert in the magazine or you can use the online subscription form on this website.

If you would like to receive a complimentary copy, we invite you to send us your name and address, or the name and address of a friend that might be interested in seeing your magazine. We will send a complimentary back issue. If you live in the Sault area, you can purchase a current issue at local newsstands.  Just drop us a postcard, or use our ‘Contact Us’ form.  For a friend, include their name and full mailing address along with your name. Due to high international mailing rates, we can only send magazines to Canadian and U.S. addresses. Please limit your submissions to one per month.  Quantities are limited.

Subscribers receive subscription renewal notices with the last three issues prior to the subscription expiry. Subscriptions run for six issues and the expiry issue is printed on the mailing label on the envelope the magazine arrives in.

Subscription renewals can be made by regular mail with payment by cheque or money order. A subscription form is included in the insert card in each magazine. You can also renew a subscription online . Our website includes the ability to make credit card payments for new or renewal subscriptions, or you may choose to be invoiced and pay by cheque or money order later. Unfortunately we can not accept credit card payments in person or over the phone at this time, online only.

Sincerely,
The Staff & Management,
Townies Marketing & Publishing
